“Short Skirt/Long Jacket” by CAKE

Released in 2001 on the cult classic “Comfort Eagle”, this song is a prime example of the bands willingness to experiment and do things like pair horns with rap bars and a wicked bass line. The music video for this song is also great and in my opinion was ahead of its time. If an artist used the same concept today, it would not seem outdated at all. In fact, I think it would receive quite a bit of praise for being innovative. CAKE did it first, pal!

“Adult Diversion” by Alvvays

What is there to say about this great band that hasn’t already been said about the Pieta or the Palace of Versailles? Alvvays seem to have mastered the art of making music that evokes memories of a summer spent wasting the days away with your favorite people. This song, as well as many others from the band, are a great example of what timeless music sounds like.

“Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey” by Paul & Linda McCartney

I could go on and on about how great this song is, but I think I’ll leave it to the ever so eloquent @russbeard3665 who left a very well written comment on the video. “This song is an unbelievable achievement... it is to the ears what a Salvador Dali painting is to the eyes... complex yet simple, totally majestic around one corner and whimsical around the next. The time changes, arrangement and melody are simply brilliant.” (Youtube)
