In recent years it has seemingly become the norm to act as though no good music is being made anymore. I firmly rebuke these sentiments! Exhibit A: Alvvays.
Alvvays (pronounced Always) is a Canadian indie pop band made up of: Molly Rankin (lead vocals), Kerri MacLellan (keyboards), Alec O’Hanley (guitars) and Sheridan Riley (drums)
As if it wasn’t enough for Pitchfork to give them the highly coveted “Track of the year” in 2022 for their hit song “Belinda Says”, John Wick himself also gave kudos to the Canadian band when asked about his current musical faves.
In a Reddit AMA from 2022, Keanu Reeves received hundreds of questions from fans about everything from training jiu-jitsu for The Matrix to what was the best cocktail he’s ever had. For those who may be curious, his favorite cocktail was a “sublime concoction” that had mezcal, green tea, and a third mystery sweet liqueur and it was made by a master cocktail maker named Ueno-san at a spot called Bar High Five in Tokyo. This world-renowned bar is famous for having a “no-menu” approach that allows the bartenders to create custom drinks based on the customer’s preferences. Now back to the task at hand! When asked about which bands he had been listening to recently, Reeves went on to say, “… I love that band (Alvvays). I like me a good pop song and I like me a kind of inventiveness in it. I think the lead singer, she’s great.” (NME) Safe to say that the Baba Yaga knows his stuff.
In addition to consistently phenomenal production that consists of synths, reverb-soaked guitars and dreamy vocals, what elevates Alvvays and makes their music endlessly replayable is their songwriting.

The band does not seem to have any upcoming shows at the moment but we (yes we) will be eagerly anticipating whatever comes next for them.
